This Day in History: 100 points!

On March 2, 1962, Wilt Chamberlain of the Philadelphia Warriors accomplished the greatest feat in the history of American sports by scoring 100 points against the New York Knicks. It is a record that will never be broken in the NBA, not even by Kobe Bryant, who did school an amazing 81 points against the Toronto Raptors.

I always dreamed of scoring 100 points, I think I managed to do that in the course of my entire high school career.

But for Wilt to do that in one night, before the three-point era, is simply incredible. He shot 63 times that night and made 36 of those. The Knicks tried to stop him by hacking the lifetime 51% free-throw shooter, but that backfired. Wilt only missed four of his 32 foul shots that night as the Warriors walloped the Knicks 169-147. (I feel bad for anyone that benched him on their fantasy team that night.)

Wilt went on to have one of the best seasons in NBA history, scoring 4,029 points (50.4) a game and grabbing 25.7 rebounds a game.
